Dr. Pearlman D. Hicks was born in Hamilton, Ohio. He attended public high school there before completing his undergraduate education at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He graduated in 1968 with a B.A. degree in Biological Sciences. After completing four years of medical school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, he completed a five year general surgical residency at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio in 1977. From 1976-1977 he was Chief Surgical Resident at University Hospitals. He returned to Massachusetts and completed his two years of plastic surgical residency at Harvard University. In his last year he was Chief Resident in Plastic Surgery at both Boston Children's Hospital and the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital.
Dr. Hicks has been in practice in Southern California since 1979. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of numerous medical societies, including the Los Angeles County Medical Association, Los Angeles Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, California Medical Association, American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, American Medical Association, National Medical Association, Charles R. Drew Medical Society, Long Beach Medical Association, Inglewood Physicians Association, Member of American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and he is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Because of the wide range of procedures and the complex skills involved in plastic surgery, the length of time required to complete plastic surgery residency is the longest of any specialty except cardiac surgery.
Dr. Hicks has authored and co-authored several scientific papers. He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times and been a guest of the Oprah Winfrey Show. He is on the staff of numerous area hospitals including, Memorial Hospital of Long Beach, Long Beach Community Hospital, St. Mary Medical Center, Centinela Hospital, California Hospital, St. Francis, Robert F. Kennedy Memorial, Cedars Sinai Hospital, Westside Hospital, Midway Hospital, Hollywood Community Hospital, Daniel Freeman Memorial, Pacific Hospital and others.
