Dr. Beckenstein was born and raised in New York. He earned a Bachelor of
Science degree, in Biology, from Union college in Schenectady, New York. In 1987, he received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia
Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. He was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.
He completed his internship and General Surgical training in 1992 at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in
Livingston, New Jersey where he was awarded the Herbert Schulte Award for clinical excellence.
Dr. Beckenstein then completed a Plastic Surgery Residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland,
Ohio. He continued at the university for a six month research fellowship.
To obtain expertise in the field of breast surgery, he completed a fellowship at the Breast Reconstruction Foundation under Dr. Carl Hartrampf, Jr. in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Hartrampf is credited with the development of the TRAM flap and is the foremost authority on this
subject. Dr. Beckenstein then went on to Georgetown University in Washington, DC to train under Scott L. Spear, M.D. Dr. Spear is considered by his
peers to be an expert in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery and is a co-developer of the anatomic, saline breast implants.

After completing his training at Georgetown
University, Dr. Beckenstein entered a fellowship in breast reconstruction and aesthetic surgery under James C. Grotting, M.D. in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Grotting is world renowned for micro-surgical breast
reconstruction and aesthetic surgery. Dr. Beckenstein also obtained a vast experience in Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (UAL) during his
training there.
During his fellowships at Georgetown University and in
Birmingham, Dr. Beckenstein also developed expertise in aesthetic surgery of the face, body contouring, and the latest liposuction
techniques, including the use of Ultrasound Assisted Lipectomy (UAL).
Dr. Beckenstein has authored and co-authored several articles in peer reviewed journals as well as several textbook chapters on the
subjects of breast, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgery. He currently is working on several projects. Dr. Beckenstein is developing
several surgical instruments and holds a U.S. patent on a device. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the
American Board of Surgery. |
